Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by a Marv Safaris representative and transferred to Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwestern part of Rwanda. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours, passing through the lush, rolling hills that give Rwanda its nickname, "Land of a Thousand Hills." Upon arrival at your lodge near the park, you can relax and prepare for the exciting gorilla trekking adventure the following day.
After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you’ll embark on a hike through the park’s dense bamboo forest in search of a mountain gorilla family. Trekking can last between 1 to 6 hours, depending on the gorilla family’s location.
Once you encounter the gorillas, you’ll have one hour to observe and photograph them up close, witnessing their fascinating behavior in their natural habitat. This is a humbling and unforgettable experience. After the trek, you’ll return to your lodge to relax and reflect on the day's adventure.
On your third day, you’ll explore Rwanda’s rich culture with a visit to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village. This unique experience allows you to interact with local communities, learn about traditional Rwandan practices, and even participate in some of their activities such as traditional dances, drumming, and handicraft-making. You’ll gain insight into Rwanda’s history, culture, and way of life through engaging storytelling and performances.
In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, located near the base of the Virunga Mountains. The lakes offer stunning scenic views, and you’ll have time to enjoy a peaceful boat ride, photograph the landscape, or simply relax by the water.
After breakfast, you’ll return to Kigali for a city tour. This includes a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a poignant and insightful memorial to the victims of the 1994 genocide. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore local markets, buy souvenirs, and learn more about Rwanda’s resilience and remarkable progress since the tragic events.
After the city tour, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your 4-day gorilla trekking and cultural tour.
